The neighborhood

Bairro Alto Hotel is located in the historic center of Lisbon in a prestigious and emblematic area, made even more special by the several Lisbon sights it offers: it is located between the elegant and cosmopolitan Chiado and the bohemian Bairro Alto. There isn’t a better place in the capital to feel Lisbon’s true soul and to be surrounded by its authenticity.

Bairro Alto

From the entrance of the hotel we see Praça Luís de Camões, which imposes itself as a separation between this neighborhood and Chiado. Further on we have Bairro Alto with its steep streets, flanked by the viewpoint of São Pedro de Alcântara. At every corner there are a variety of restaurants and bars, along with alternative shops, bookstores and art galleries. In the air, we feel the unmistakable aroma of the famous cream pastries ("pastéis de nata”), while listening to street performers and feeling the cool breeze of the Tejo River.

Chiado

The harmonious light of Lisbon shines on the streets as we cross to Chiado. Under the watchful eye of Fernando Pessoa, a tram goes by: the "28", as it is known, in operation for more than 100 years. Further down, among other iconic spots, we find the Bertrand bookstore, one of the oldest in the world still in business. We are close to several points of tourist and cultural interest.

Facades of "azulejos”, dormer windows and typical Lisbon sidewalks make the horizon, providing a stage for the dynamic dance of those who walk the streets: people who wander, work or live in the city. At a distance, the occasional glimpse of the Tejo river... here, we feel the beat of life in the city - here, we are in the heart of Lisbon.
